5th Edition of Asia Pacific Golf Summit at Pattaya Exhibition And Convention Hall (PEACH), Royal Cliff Hotels Group ends with Growth and Seismic Change.
The week-long golf carnival at the Pattaya Exhibition And Convention Centre (PEACH), Royal Cliff Hotels Group has now came to a close having wowed delegates and exhibitors who had traveled far and wide for this summit. The 5th edition of Asia Pacific Golf Summit which included the PGA Conference of Asia, the Golf Course Superintendents of Asia Summit, the ASEAN Golf Tourism Forum and the Southeast Asia, India Golf Merchandise Exposition, launched itself as a platform and catalyst for ‘seismic changes’ in the Asia Pacific golf industry.
These exciting groundbreaking events were made possible by support and sponsorship from Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) and the Royal Cliff Hotels Group and PEACH.
The event was graced with distinguished delegates, speakers and award-winners throughout the week including HE Sombat Kuruphan Vice Minister, Ministry of Tourism & Sports Thailand, Mr. Sansern Ngaorungsri Deputy Governor of TAT, Mr. Akapol Sorasuchart President of Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), Mr. Ittiphol Khunpluem Mayor of Pattaya City, Mr. Kanokphand Chulakasem Governor of SAT, Thai Golf personality Mr. Thongchai Jaidee, tennis legend Mr. Jimmy Connors and two-time Major champion Mr. Tony Jacklin.
The summit also featured the 12th Annual Asian Golf Monthly Awards and gala dinner held at PEACH where the delegates and prestigious guests were treated to a sumptuous culinary experience and lively dance performance. During the awards ceremony Tony Jacklin received the ‘Asia Pacific Lifetime Achievement Award’ for his contribution to the golf world. Jimmy Connors was bestowed the ‘Asia Pacific Excellence in Sports Award’ for his supreme legendary sportsmanship. Gary Player was inducted into the Asia Pacific Golf Hall of Fame via live-video broadcast and last but certainly not least, Thongchai Jaidee marked the occasion as the first professional Asian golfer to receive the Asia Pacific Life-Time Achievement award. Thailand proudly retains its celebrated title as the ‘Best Golf Destination in Asia Pacific’ with many of its first-rate courses winning awards in categories such as ‘Best Championship Course in Asia Pacific’, ‘Best Maintained Course in Asia Pacific’ and ‘Best Course in Thailand’. Throughout the week illustrious brands in the golf world were featured in exhibitions displaying the latest and greatest merchandise. The honour of ‘cutting the ribbon’ for the opening of the Southeast Asia, India Golf Merchandise Exposition was graced by Mr. Ittiphol Khunpluem Mayor of Pattaya City, with the summit’s organizers, Mr. Mike Sebastian and Mrs. Angela Raymond, Royal Cliff Hotels Group Managing Director Mrs. Panga Vathanakul and General Manager Mr. Joachim Grill in attendance. Mr. Ittiphol then explored the booths and tested out many of the world’s top equipment from manufacturers such as PING, TaylorMade and Swing Catalyst. The event also featured various assemblies and lecture sessions on a range of topics in the golf industry. Areas of focus included how to think outside of the box in order to make significant strides in golf, how to effectively market Thailand’s golf product, the importance of health and fitness, high profile golf coaches and the importance of golf teachers. Delegates were inundated with innovative ideas and new directions to take the Asia Pacific and Thai golf industry, truly fulfilling the theme of this year’s summit: Change.
